Pediments are the portion of the trim that is located above the pilasters, the column-like frames on the sides of windows and doors. Between the pediment and the pilasters, there is a crosshead or breast board, which is the flatter, protruding section directly above the door. Pediments can be purchased alone or with a crosshead already attached. They are made of high-density urethane that looks like wood but requires less maintenance. Urethane products are resistant to cracking, splitting, and rotting, making them a more cost-effective option than wood alternatives.
